In a few hours time my first lesson for the sem will start. Before that, as usual, I'd like to sum up my holidays.

This Dec holidays I felt, have been particularly enriching for me. Compared to going on a trip overseas, window shopping with friends, being cooped up in my room playing The Sims, watching dramas on the net etc etc, interning seem like the "correct" choice for me. And it was.

It was kinda fortunate that the company I went to did not regard interns as temp admin staffs, or so in my opinion. But of course with that comes some responsibility and expectations made of you. It was the first time I was kind of expected to actually produce results at work.

Another important factor that kept me going at work was the environment (I mean the office people and definitely not literally the environment cos Jurong is really really polluted) and the fellow interns. Even though I had several temp jobs before, this was the first time (notice yet another first) I had fellow comrades with me. I didn't dread lunch anymore but instead always counting down with them to it. Occasionally, we got young colleagues to join us and it wouldn't get too awkward too!

I also did my first semi-formal corporate presentation to about 20 audience during the internship. Although I didn't think it went superbly well, still glad that I received comments saying I didn't appear nervous as compared to the others. haha.

All of the above made me miss my working days even when it means having to commute 3 hours a day to and fro. As my boss was saying, five weeks was really too short.

Overall, my Dec holidays were great! Apart from work, the one day trip to JB, outings with LPYs, meeting up with old friends for a nice long chat, the failed Christmas exchange with the jc friends (haha!), going for the new year countdown fireworks (will not go in near future) and even managing to squeeze in some Sims time made my holidays even more 充实. Cheers to many great holidays in future!

It's been awhile! Didn't know he looks like this now!

有实力的人, clean look wins all.

Reserved the book Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts during reading week and it proved that my estimation for nLib's reserve waiting list was accurate when the library staff called me earlier today.

But that was one 'question mark' call.

Librarian: Hi Miss Ng, the book that you have reserved, Shantaram, is ready for collection. But I would like to inform you that because it is a popular title, it is in quite a bad shape currently. However, I have checked through and see that every single page (at this moment, I wondered whether she really flipped through every page) is intact. So, would you accept the book?

Me: Oh okkk.... Is it possible that I wait for the next book to come along?

Librarian: How about I send it over to Tampines library and you can go there to take a look before you decide whether you want to accept it.

Me: It's ok thanks, I will just wait for the next book.

Did I make the wrong decision? It sounds like it's gonna be a looong wait because she kind of hinted so. BUT, how can I stand a torn and tattered (and prolly stained and dirty) book when I already think all library books are kinda... not clean. You never know who brings the book to the toliet, flip the pages after digging the nose, scratch the armpits etc etc.

Ok, I don't know why am I blogging about this. But I think I'm still thankful I'm waiting for a better book.

*On a side note, I think I studied my GE3219 Globalisation and the Asian Cities lecture notes rather well because I remembered the full name of the above mentioned author without having to google it (ok fine, I googled to confirm it). wow.

Hello world.

As I'm doing my webcast, two books that was mentioned in the lecture caught my attention and got me searching them up on NLIB's catalogue. While searching, I did a quick mental check and was reminded that I have quite a few books lying on my table waiting for me to flip them open!

So in the upcoming December break, I'm hoping to strike off at least two books from the list!

Here's my list:

This is what I call a "toliet read". You get the idea.

Since I've read two of this five book series, I might as well read this (it's been lying around in my house since October!)

I have to finish off this book before my sis fly to the US.

This is quite a heavy book and I don't mean it has a dense writing style.

But you kind of need quite a clear mind to think and reflect upon what message the author is trying to put across and I enjoy applying them into my life.

I think this kind of books is very meaningful, so I'll make sure I remember what teachings I've learnt from them. But, more often than not, by the end of the week, I'd have forgotten everything. hahaha.

This is the book introduced in my lecture. The title says it all- book on slums!

The status is amazingly (or not) Not On Loan in Tampines Library! 'Tampinesians' seem to read alot.

House Rules! It's also been lying around for quite some time already.

Jodi Picoult is good, but after reading perhaps the fourth of fifth book from her, it really becomes boring. Similar storyline, similiar family tragedy, similar writing style.

Okay, this is another book by Mike Davis introduced in lecture. But since it has a boring title and cover design, this will only be considered if Planet Of Slums turns out to be an interesting and fulfilling read.

The last one on the list is also the last book of the Millenium Trilogy.

I've read the first two books; the first turned out to be really exciting but the second one was way too disappointing. But since I'm 2/3 done with this trilogy, might as well, right?
